Virginia, the birthplace of the legendary Secretariat, is now vying for the next magnificent Secretariat Monument, "Racing Into History," by Jocelyn Russell. It is only fitting that this monument is placed in his home state as he was born, raised and first trained at Meadow Stable in Caroline County, Virginia.
This historic bronze sculpture, "Racing Into History," is one of two monument castings by the artist depicting the Meadow Stable champion, the other resides in Lexington, Kentucky along scenic Old Frankfort Pike. At 21 feet long and 11.5 feet tall, "Racing Into History" is the largest monument of Secretariat in existence.
Our goal is to bring this new larger-than-life Secretariat bronze to Virginia by early 2023 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his historic Triple Crown of 1973!
The Virginia effort is being led by Secretariat for Virginia or SECVA. This civic group consists of individuals closely associated with Secretariat’s legacy, such as Kate Chenery Tweedy, daughter of Penny Chenery, the woman who owned and raced Secretariat.
If you have any questions on the monument, or would like more information on how you can help make this movement to bring Secretariat home to Virginia a reality, please contact us and become part of "Friends of Secretariat for Virginia (SECVA)." You can also join our email list for updates on our progress. We look forward to hearing from you!
This is what we want to do in Virginia in 2023 for the 50th anniversary of Secretariat's Triple Crown!
Secretariat is out of the gate and heading down the freeway to his new home in Lexington!
